‘Bergerac’ to make a return
80s classic ‘Bergerac’ could soon make a return to our screens.
The popular police drama was set in Jersey and ran for nine series throughout the 80s and 90s, putting the Channel Islands in the spotlight.
Today, Jersey’s Westward Studios announced it is working alongside Artists Studios and Endemol Shine UK to develop a reboot of the series for Paramount Network International.
Emmy award-winning producer, Gub Neal has been named as the Lead Producer, and is known for working on Prime Suspect, Cracker and The Fall.
Mr Neal says the series will be up-to-date while still in keeping with the much-loved style:
‘We’ve been trying to bring back ‘Bergerac’ for some time and I’m very glad that we have the next generation of such an iconic show in development.
‘Updated for the present day, it will deal with contemporary stories-of-the-week that run alongside a strong serial spine.’
Executive Vice President of Paramount Network, Jill Offman, says it would run on the network’s channels outside of the US:
‘We have several dramas in development, one of which is the classic favourite ‘Bergerac’.
‘Our hope is that we will be able to commission ‘Bergerac’ as a full series for Paramount Network International.’
