Cannonball in the wall will be kept

9th March 2019

A cannon ball, possibly from the time of the English Civil War, has been found embedded in the walls of Castle Cornet.

The ball was discovered by stonemasons who were re-pointing one of the walls in the middle ward.

Historians believe the ball may have been fired by parliament supporters or Roundheads in St Peter Port at royalists who occupied the Castle during the conflict.

It has been decided to keep the ball in the wall and repairs will be made around it.
