Cyclists head to the airport for overnight fundraiser
Some of Guernsey’s cyclists will be heading to the airport this evening, to raise funds for the Sarah Groves Foundation.
The Tour de Sez Runway Ride Sportive will see islanders riding up to 100 miles on the runway, between 10pm tonight and 5am tomorrow morning.
The fundraiser comes before the Tour de Sez, which will take place in September.
Organiser, Gary Hooks, says lots of people are getting involved in the main event this year:
‘We’ve got 100 cyclists this year. We had 75 last time, and the first tour had about 60. It seems to grow every time we do it, and just gets more popular!
We’re going to go through northern France into Belgium, we’re going to dogleg into Germany just to add some extra miles for the boys and girls, and then we’ll go up to Rotterdam and straight up to Amsterdam. It’s about 750 miles, but realistically we’re looking at around 800 miles.’
