Guernsey Electricity investigates second undersea cable

11th July 2018

Guernsey Electricity is investigating another cable which would link the island with France.

We’re told the current undersea cable provided 86 percent of the island’s demand last year, with 33 percent of that coming from the Tidal Barrage at the Rance in Brittany.

Chief Operating Officer, Sally-Ann David, explains more about the research:

‘We’re looking at the routes and potential landing points and working a business case. The benefits would allow imports – maybe more renewable energy. It also increases the security of the supply to the island, and of course that’s very beneficial for allowing this energy transition to continue.’
