Until 31st March 2017 the site is open from 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm at weekends. The facility accepts a wide range of different items, from rubble and old bricks to electrical items and wooden furniture. Any that are in good working condition can be given a new home. FREE LANTERN MAKING WORKSHOPS

Preparations for 2017 Guernsey Lantern Parade are now in full swing and as the countdown to this most spectacular Spring event in Guernsey is underway, Guernsey Arts Commission has organised several free lantern making workshops and would like to invite parents and guardians to book spaces for their kids to join this fun, family activity. Availability is limited.

All workshops are free & will be led by local artists. All materials are provided & each workshop takes about 2 hours. All lanterns made during these workshops will be used in GAC’s 2017 Guernsey Lantern Parade, in conjunction with The Sarah Groves Foundation.

The Free Lantern Making Workshops offer an opportunity to spend some quality, fun time with your kids and learn a new skill.

ECOLOGY AND CONSERVATION IN NEW ZEALAND

A presentation on the ecology of New Zealand and how New Zealand is protecting and managing its conservation estate against the modern threats of invasive species, loss of habitat and changing land use.

 This talk is presented by Charles Hurford, who holds a BSc in New Zealand ecology and now works in Guernsey for PEH.

LIVING HISTORY TOUR OF GUILLE-ALLES LIBRARY

Fans of local history will have an exciting chance to tour the iconic Guille-Allès Library building with one of its former staff this spring. The tour will be led by Linwood Pitts, the original curator of the Guille-Allès Library and Museum, who died in 1917. Mr Pitts, played by John Gaisford from the Guernsey History in Action Company, will be returning to the library 100 years after his death.

This is a great chance for people to visit the library after hours and learn about the history of the building. The tour will roam through all four floors of the library, highlighting interesting features of the building while telling the stories of the many people who have worked there over the years. The tour will culminate with drinks and nibbles in the Entrance Hall.

GUERNSEY GAMING FOR GOOD- WINTER’ISH BRAWL 2017

A weekend-long video gaming tournament at the Loading Bar, Contree Mansell, St Peter Port.

PRACTICE SEESSION FOR THE EVEREST CHALLENGE

The annual climbing event will take place at Le Murier School on the 9th to 11th of March.  Teams are invited to complete a minimum of 15 ascents of the school’s climbing wall in one hour, with the combined teams’ efforts totaling the height of Everest – 8,848 metres.

The organisers are looking for teams of 6 to 8 people to raise money and climb for one hour. Anyone can climb, from toddlers to grandparents. If you don’t have a team, just come along. Different levels of climbing to suit different levels of ability and they can accommodate wheelchair users.

Entry is free, but each team raises money through sponsorship. All climbing equipment will be provided by the school and instruction will be given by qualified staff. The practice session is running between 10am and 4pm. No advanced booking is required, just turn up and there will be staff on hand to help find a suitable climb.

LA RIBOTRIE- MUSIC AND DANCING

La Ribotrie is akin to the Breton Fest Noz or a Ceilidh, in France they simply call it Bal or Bal Folk. The idea is to try and bring back some of the French and native culture to Guernsey including Guernesiais and some of the dances that still remain here, very much like the Norman French dances.
