SARNIA ARTS AND CRAFTS CLUB- EN PLEIN AIR COMPETITION

Held at Saumarez Park.

With an exhibition of all the entries following on 19th – 21st June in The Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden.

The competition is open to anyone over the age of 16 to enter and this year there is cash prize of £250 for the winner. All you have to do to enter is to bring whatever medium you are planning to paint on (paper, canvas board etc,) to The Cart Room by the Folk and Costume Museum at Saumarez Park between 9.30 – 10am on Tuesday 18th June to be stamped and you then have all day to paint from any location within the park grounds before returning your entry between 4.30pm and 5pm for judging.

It costs £5 per stamped item to enter (£3 if you are a Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club member). In addition to the Cash Prize of £250 the winner will also have their name inscribed on the Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club Plein Air Painting Trophy.

Although the official competition judges will select the winning entry, the public will also have an opportunity to vote for their favourite at the exhibition following the competition.

TO JAPAN AND BACK AGAIN – HOW A CORNER OF GUERNSEY TURNED JAPANESE

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POWERBOAT RACING

The Guernsey Powerboat Association have affiliated with the UK Governing body for offshore power-boating and Guernsey has been chosen to host round 2 of the world championship series.

A Vin d’honneur has been arranged at Castle Cornet to greet the teams on the Friday evening.

Saturday morning is the race which covers the Gouliot passage and the crews will be awarded class medals at the Yacht Club at lunch-time before heading to the Duke of Richmond Hotel for the gala prize giving.

On Sunday there’ll be a decorated boat parade through town from the Slaughterhouse to St. Julian’s roundabout, the same as was done at previous Powerboat Week events.

The exhibition is one of the highlights in Guernsey’s arts calendar and well worth several visits as items which are sold are replaced throughout the exhibition with new work from our skillful and creative artists.

Beau Cinema will move to Castle Cornet for one week in August for a series of special outdoor twilight film screenings of The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society.

Each night at 7pm the top lawn plays host to an open air cinema and a big outdoor screen will offer locals and visitors the chance to experience watching the film about our island’s unique history in the beautiful historical setting of Castle Cornet.

The film, which premiered in Guernsey in 2018 follows the story of writer Juliet Ashton and her relationship with an eccentric group of people who, having suffered the experiences of Occupation in Guernsey during WWII, find solace in books, reading and the simple pleasure of each other’s company.
