20th June 2015

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the start of the evacuation of Guernsey during the Second World War.

As the island was demilitarised boats were sent to pick up young children and their mothers, and school pupils who travelled with their teachers.

Over the next few days 17,000 people out of the island’s 42,000 population were evacuated.
