Bob Beebe

Originally from Derby in the UK, Bob has always been interested in music. In his teens he learnt to play drums and by 19 he was playing in a local Derby band "Omen Searcher". The rock band had success playing up and down the UK. The band ultimately released a single after several studio sessions and got into the NME and Sounds rock charts. Bob said he had immense fun and the remaining band members still play on today. He was asked to join Island FM back in 2007 after being involved in several promotions with the station. He loves it!

On Sunday evenings from 7 till 10pm Bob will relax you after the Big Top 40 Show in 'The Chill Out', playing just great music to get you relaxed ready for the busy week ahead.

A bit about Bob

1. Where were you born, and how did you get into radio?

I was born in Derby in the UK. I've always enjoyed music and radio in general and can't do anything without having some form of music on. My first experience of radio was when I played in a rock band in the UK for about 8 years and we did loads of interviews on the local radio station. One interview was with Terry Christian who was on Celebrity Big Brother recently! Top bloke......

2. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

I wish that I had a super power that allowed me to resolve difficult conflicts! I hate to see people falling out generally and going to war as an extreme. Life is to be enjoyed and many people simply never get that chance.

3. What was the first single and album you bought?

I think it was Chuck Berry's My Ding a Ling! How embarrassing. My first Album was Queen 1 back in 1973. I still have every Queen LP and have seen them 4 times. My music has moved on a bit since then and I enjoy anything that makes me feel great from pop to classical. Summer tunes do that best and we had some corkers last summer in the top 40......

4. Favourite film of all time?

It sounds boring now, but ALIEN did it for me in its day. I always enjoy a great Sci-Fi film.

5. What is your favourite time of day?

I'm a morning boy really I guess. It's the best time of day. I'm often up at 5 or 6 in the morning, doing all of those things that need doing. I'm at my most creative then I guess, as well.

6.Which person dead or alive do you admire the most and why?

I would have loved to have had dinner with Winston Churchill - he was a very inspirational man. I'm also a big motor sport fan and I'd love to spend an evening with Michael Schumacher - he is a wise guy too, I reckon. As the best show man that ever lived; Freddie Mercury was the boy. I'd loved to have spent an hour at one of his parties with Freddie and Roger and the guys....

7. What is your favourite holiday destination?

I've been lucky enough to have been to Mauritius a few times and the Indian Ocean tops it for me. Usually places where there aren't many commercialised centres. The locals make places to visit interesting, I find.....

8. If you could play a musical instrument what would it be? Or can you already play one?

I learnt to play the drums when in my early teens and had great fun playing in a band for 8 years. I found a site with some old pics on it if you  are interested! (www.omensearcher.org.uk) We played countless gigs and even had a single in the rock charts. Fantastic experience with your mates.....

9.What is your favourite thing about Guernsey?

The long sunny days when we get them, the beaches, the Guernsey pound note and knowing lots of great people who are great characters, and finally the lifestyle in general!

10. Finally, what did your final school report say about you?

"Could try harder" was one of the favourites in my school reports and I think the last one said something like, must try harder! When I left school, that was when I did start to work harder and studied for years to become an engineer. This has taken me around the world with my work and it's been great......
