Mike Zeller

Mike is the new boy at Island FM, but an old hand at being on the radio (Oi! - Less of the old..Mike) This year is Mike's 20th year in radio, a career which has seen him work at radio stations as far afield as Preston, Hull, Bedford, Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry. However, he's more than happy to celebrate that in the Bailiwick! An experienced breakfast presenter, Mike is used to the alarm going off in the very early hours, and says he has a tried and tested way of coping with the early mornings....."I'm addicted to tea. I drink so much of the stuff, it's actually bordering on the ridiculous!"

Girlfriend Emma is back in the UK, and Mike is very much looking forward to showing her around Guernsey over the coming months every time she comes to visit. Always up for a laugh, he's looking forward to waking up the Bailiwick with a mixture of great songs, news, travel, the best in showbiz and lifestyle, and definitely a smile or two along the way!

Known for his love of pies, Mike is hoping to turn that to his advantage. His Jimmy Savile impression is err....interesting.....but in return for a pie, he'll quite happily stop doing it. Carolyn on reception can frequently be seen returning from the shops, laden with bribery!

Oh, and maybe one day, he'll tell you about his experiences involving food poisoning, a frantic phone call, and an Abba tribute band....and no, there aren't any photos. We've already asked!

Congratulations if you took part in Race For Life 2010, at Footes Lane. I had a fantastic time, meeting some great people. If you would like a memento of the day, Dave Le Tissier was taking photos of all the ladies as they crossed the finishing line. Dave has kindly said that any profit made from the sale of the photos will be donated to Cancer Research UK. To buy the pictures, visit Dave’s website http://www.yourmomentscaptured.co.uk/

1. Where were you born, and how did you get into radio?

I was born in Carlisle, in Cumbria, and when we moved to Lancashire, I just pestered my local radio station in Preston for some holiday work experience. One thing led to another, and they eventually put me on air!

2. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

I'd love to be able to make myself invisible as and when I wanted. The fun you could have would be endless!

3. What was the first single and album you bought?

First single was Don't Stand So Close To Me by The Police, and the first album was Zenyatta Mondatta, also by The Police

4. Favourite film of all time?

All The President's Men - it's about the Watergate scandal, and it's truly brilliant!

5. What is your favourite time of day?

Definitely mornings, thankfully

6. Which football team do you support?

Carlisle United! I was there the day Jimmy Glass scored in injury time, and in doing so, created the 72nd best sporting moment of all time! Well, so say Channel 4, anyway....And because I lived there for 12 years, I'm also a big fan of Wolves!

7. What is your favourite holiday destination?

New York - one of the most amazing cities on earth.

8. If you could play a musical instrument what would it be? Or can you already play one?

I can sort of play the drums, but would really love to be able to play the piano

9. What is your favourite thing about Guernsey?

The beaches are fantastic, and there are some wonderful places to eat.

10. Finally, what did your final school report say about you?

Don't worry Headmaster, every day that passes is a day closer to Michael leaving....
