Top politician represents Guernsey in Brexit discussions
Guernsey’s top politician has met with UK counterparts to discuss the implications of Brexit and current priorities.
Deputy Gavin St Pier attended the All Party Parliamentary Channel Island Group meeting, along with representatives of the States of Alderney and the Government of Jersey.
We’re told the group discussed the progress of Brexit as it affects the Channel Islands, among other topics.
This included so-called ‘seemingly strange anomolies’ in the UK’s approach to topics like healthcare charges and student fees for Guernsey residents.
When asked about the recent assisted dying deabte, Deputy St Pier responded by saying it had demonstrated that the island could ‘consider such a serious matter’ in a ‘mature and respectful manner’.
The meeting aims to promote a better understanding of the issues facing the islands, while developing relations with the UK Government.
