Cyclists to ride from Guernsey to Istanbul

Gary Hooks and Leon Howard will take on the challenge that will see them journey across the length of Europe.

Hooks and Howard will begin in Guernsey before making their way to the final destination of Istanbul, passing through Rome on the way.

The pair will leave from Market Square at 12PM tomorrow, and are expected to reach Rome by Monday the 23rd of September.

The first phase of the journey will take 11 days to get to Rome, and will see them cycle across France before crossing into Italy and cycling half-way across the length of the country before they enter the Italian capital.

The journey will then enter its second phase, which is thought will take the duo another 13 days, along with another ferry trip that will take the men across the Adriatic, to get them into Greece and then their final destination; the Turkish city of Istanbul.

The journey will see the pair ride over 2,000 miles in total, with a planned return date set for Sunday the 6th of October by ferry from St. Malo.

Although no initial money will be raised for the foundation, Hooks and Howard will be trialing the proposed route for the ‘Home to Rome’ charity cycle set to take place in September 2021.
