ESC respond to Deputy Meerveld 'discrepancies'

Deputy Matt Fallaize has issued a response to Deputy Meerveld's concerns regarding discrepancies in the planned budgets for the ESC's education reform.

The ESC president responded with a letter explaining the side by side analysis and examining the proposed financial discrepancies outlined by Deputy Meerveld.

Deputy Fallaize says Deputy Meerveld's questions were referred to officers, as the committee played no part in preparing the analysis requested.

The officers say, in a meeting with Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, it was agreed the capital expenditure would need to be remodelled to ensure the options were comparable - as far as could be achieved in the short timescale available.

It was also agreed any expenditure required to ensure equality of provision across all models shouldbe itemised separately.

In order to update the capital, the model was updated with the latest school population projections, costs of maintenance and repairs to St Sampsons was factored in, and an update on all of the building cost estimates using the same cost estimation rates as those used by the one school/two school model.

They say it was necessary to include upgraded MUGAs and swimming pools as part of the equality of provision estimates.
