Man's Body Retrieved In Guernsey Formally Identified

The body of a man body recovered from water in Guernsey last month has been confirmed as that of Matthew Bourgaize, who went missing in January.

The 29-year-old was last seen on 11 January leaving the island's adult mental health service.

His body was retrieved from Havelet Bay on 9 February.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and we ask their privacy is respected." - Guernsey Police

The force is not treating his death as suspicious. An inquest is due to take place in due course.

Guernsey Health and Social Care has released a statement following the announcement by police.

"This is incredibly sad news and all of our thoughts are with Mr. Bourgaize’s family and friends. The police have confirmed that an inquest will take place to establish cause of death and HSC will, of course, cooperate fully to support that coronial process. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further until the inquest has concluded, but we will do so in due course."
