The Dean of Guernsey has circulated a list of prayer requests for Guernsey during the current coronavirus pandemic,

The Very Reverend T R Barker, Dean of Guernsey has sent out a list of prayers for islanders to say during the pandemic:

1. For all who are leading our fight against Covid-19

2. For those in Government who have to make difficult decisions that impact on all the community

3. For Deputy Gavin St Pier, the President of the Policy & Resources Committee, for Paul Whitfield, the Chief Executive of the States of Guernsey, and their teams of advisers

4. For Deputy Heidi Soulsby, the members of the Committee for Health and Social Care, and their professional advisers

5. For Dr Nicola Brink, and her team at Public Health

6. For Dr Peter Rabey, the Medical Director; and for Elaine Burgess, Head of Acute  Nursing Care, at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital

7. For nurses, doctors and other medical staff working on the wards at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital; some of whom have willingly volunteered to work with those suffering from Covid-19, but nevertheless are fearful

8. For those involved in testing the public for Covid-19

9. For those who have come back from retirement to boost the staffing of the hospital and care for the patients who have not contracted Covid-19

10. For staff at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and in the community services many of whom are far from home, feeling isolated and anxious about their loved ones at home

11. For domestic staff and porters; for those working in the catering department, estates department, social workers; for all who are endeavouring to keep the normal routine of the hospital running smoothly

12. For patients within the Princess Elizabeth Hospital; those who are suffering from Covid-19, those who are lonely because there are no visitors permitted at this time, for those who are elderly or troubled in their minds and who cannot understand why their loved ones have stopped coming to see them

13. For patients at home who have had to have their surgery cancelled for the time being, and who are in pain

14. For general practitioners and their staff in the health centres and surgeries, especially those working at the Longfrie surgery, supporting patients who are presenting symptoms that may be Covid-19.

15. For the health professionals who work in the community, caring for the elderly, the dying and those who feel lonely and isolated

16. For all those who are supporting the mental health and well-being of people in Guernsey

17. For members of the Committee for Health and Social Care’s Ethics Committee, who have to discuss and resolve some very difficult issues raised by this pandemic

18. For those who may have to walk the journey of bereavement at this time and may struggle to come to terms with the fact that there was no chance to say ‘goodbye’ to their loved one and no opportunity to have the sort of funeral they would have chosen for them

19. For the Chaplaincy Team; for the Revd Dr David Coulter and Father Nishan, who will be working with the patients who have or who may have Covid-19; and for the Revd Linda Le Vasseur and Father Bruce Barnes, who will be working with patients with other illnesses; and for Linda as she leads the chaplaincy team in staff support

20. That we may learn lessons from this pandemic which can inform us as we look to the future
