Coronavirus: Tenerife Passengers Bused Home And Told To Stay There

Passengers returning to Jersey on a direct flight from Tenerife last night were met by waiting coaches and taken home, where they have been told to self-isolate for 14 days to prevent the possible spread of coronavirus.

An announcement was made when they got off the plane.

Ports, police and Immigration staff were at Jersey Airport to prevent the holidaymakers from being collected by family or taxis.

“This is a precautionary measure, that we are advising from today until further notice.

This is based on the health assessment of the situation in Spain, Majorca, Menorca and Tenerife and we have no indication that anyone on this flight has coronavirus."  - Dr Ivan Muscat, Deputy Medical Officer of Health.

Updated guidance on arriving back from Spain, Majorca, Menorca and Tenerife can be found at gov.je/coronavirus.

“The global spread of coronavirus is a fast-moving situation, and we will continue working to ensure that the Government quickly and effectively reacts to changing medical advice. We thank Islanders for their understanding and cooperation in following such advice.”

 Coronavirus Advice

If you think you might have the virus, you should self-isolate and call the Health Department's coronavirus helpline:

01534 445566

It's open every day between 8am and 8pm. Calls outside these times, or when the line is engaged, won't be answered straight away - but we're told to leave a message and Health officials will call you back.

Please don't visit your GP or the Emergency Department at the General Hospital if you think you have the virus.

Coronavirus symptoms are similar to that of the flu - a combination of a cough, fever and aching muscles. If you've had any symptoms, even if you haven't travelled abroad, we're being told to self-isolate until they clear up (for a minimum of seven days).

Anyone who has come into contact with a person confirmed to have the coronavirus should stay in self-isolation for at least 14 days.

All the latest information can be found on Gov.je.
