Online Running Series Launched To Keep Active

A Jersey-based company has launched a new 'virtual running series' to keep islanders active during the coronavirus lockdown.

'Keep Your Distance', set up online by RaceNation, allows people to run a 5k, 10k, or Half Marathon in their own time to receive a medal.

The challenges are available online through a tracking network such as Strava, with all money raised going to #FeedOurFrontline. Entrants can upload a run time to the results link to see how they did against the rest of the Island.

With all islanders now told to stay inside except for certain circumstances, RaceNation Director Will Golder says it's perfect for people to workout within the confines of their homes.

"We are seeing some really cool stories about people doing it within their home, in corridors, on balconies or in their garden. It really is taking everyone's imagination."

The route is chosen by each runner and can be completed as many times as they want before the end of April 2020.

The government put Jersey into lockdown at 8am today, but islanders can still leave the home for up to two hours per day to exercise while maintaining social distancing.

"With so many events being cancelled in Jersey and all over the world, we wanted to put together an initiative to help people stay fit, whilst also being safe and fun to keep the spirited community going. Topped off with a custom medal to add the collection, the Keep Your Distance Virtual Event Series is the perfect chance for us all to not only stay active, but also get creative with our chosen routes.

"We hope these events allow even just a few people to have something to work towards. All we stress is that you follow the government guidelines and ‘Keep Your Distance’." - Will Golder.
