Main Purposes of Job:
The Machine Operator plays a key role in ensuring personalised orders are printed, assembled, and dispatched accurately and on time. This is a hands on dual skilled role covering digital print production and automated inserting, ensuring printed card pages are correctly matched, folded, inserted into envelopes, and prepared for dispatch.
This role suits someone who enjoys working with machinery, takes pride in accuracy, and thrives in a fast paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate digital print equipment to produce personalised cards and related products
• Monitor print quality throughout runs and make adjustments where required
• Carry out routine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance of print equipment
• Set up, operate, and monitor auto inserter machines for card folding and envelope insertion
• Ensure correct matching of printed card pages and envelopes using control sheets or barcode systems
• Adjust machine settings to maintain accuracy, speed, and quality
• Clear jams, identify faults, and escalate issues when required
Quality Control
• Ensure every order is complete, accurate, and to Funky Pigeon quality standards
• Perform regular checks to prevent mismatches, missing inserts, or print defects
• Minimise rework, waste, and customer reprint
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
• Follow all health & safety procedures and machine operating guidelines
• Keep work areas clean, organised, and safe
• Handle paper stock, envelopes, and consumables responsibly
Skills & Experience
Essential
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to follow processes and work to tight deadlines
• Comfortable operating machinery and performing repetitive tasks
• Basic IT skills (job queues, monitors, barcode or production systems)
• Strong willingness to learn
Desirable
• Experience with digital printing machinery
• Experience operating automated inserting or mailing equipment
• Knowledge of personalised or transactional print workflows
• Experience working at peak seasonal volumes

Working Pattern
• Shift based role, Monday - Thursday 2.30pm to 10.30pm, Fridays off, Saturday 7.30am to 1pm, Sundays off.
• Flexibility required during peak periods (especially Christmas)
