Access Improvements For St Saviour's Reservoir

Wheelchair-users and people with mobility issues could benefit from improved accessibility at St Saviour's reservoir if Guernsey Water's plans are approved.

The company wants to improve access to part of the Millennium Walk at St Saviour’s reservoir.

The utility's planning application would also include an outdoor learning space in a pine forest clearing.

Steve Langlois, Guernsey Water’s General Manager says the proposals form part of the company’s centenary celebrations:

"We're really excited about these proposals. The Millennium Walk is in a really beautiful part of the island. It's already enjoyed every single day by lots of us.

These proposals would enable more people to access the walk including wheelchair users and those who are less mobile. We'll be connecting more people with nature."

He adds that educating islanders about the environment is also a key objective.

"We'll be creating an outdoor learning space for schools and community groups to use. That will also help with another part of Guernsey's Strategy for Nature which is to help share knowledge about the natural environment."

Mr Langlois said it's too early to say how much the project will cost.

"It's still very early in the process so we don't know the cost at this stage. If we are successful with the planning application, that's the next step. That's why we're making people aware at this stage.

The next step after that if we're successful will be to look for local contractors to carry out the work and we'll go through a tendering process."
