Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh was in St Anne to mark 80 years since the first civilians began moving back to the island after the Occupation.

Guernsey, Sark and Jersey have Liberation Day, but in Alderney it is known as Homecoming.

It marks the day, 80 years ago, when some 100-plus civilians were brought back to Alderney after five years in England.

Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, met the crowds in Victoria Street before attending a special church service.

Wreaths were laid at the courthouse before a vin'd'honneur where the Royal met some of those who made their way back in December 1940.
