The de Havilland Twin Otter has flown 4,000 miles from Canada to begin work on the Alderney routes.
The DHC6-300 Twin Otter is the first new aircraft investment for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group in a decade, which flies under the name Skybus.
Under a new agreement, the 17 seater will operate both Alderney routes (Guernsey and Southampton) and freight and medevacs where necessary.
The aircraft will remain under Skybus ownership and its crew will fly them, the company will maintain them and provide back ups.
This is seen as a saving on the costly, Alderney Public Service Obligation routes, and means Aurigny's two, relatively new Dornier aircraft will go.
Jonathan Hinkles, Managing Director of Skybus, says the new plane is an important investment:
