A poorly barn owl nicknamed 'Popeye’ is back in the wild after being looked after at the Shelter.
GSPCA manager Steve Byrne was working a night shift on 19 September when the owl was brought in:
“The finder of the bird named him Popeye and he was very thin and had an extremely poorly right eye.”
He was found in the road near the Hougue du Pommier.
If Popeye hadn’t have been rescued he would surely wouldn’t have survived as he was also very disorientated."
After two weeks of care the bird of prey has been released into the wild.
Steve says it's important this coming winter that people look out for any poorly wild animals and contact the Shelter with details of their whereabouts if they spot any.
Storms can cause newly born seal pups to get separated from their mothers and they can quickly lose weight. The GSPCA says in their case it's important not to touch them and to keep pet dogs away and call for professional help immediately.
