HSBC has made a donation to support the Blue Marine Foundation (BMF) and its work protecting ocean habitats around Guernsey and Jersey.
Since 2010, the BMF has been working to protect and restore life in the oceans around the world.
Its mission is to secure effective protection of at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 - and it has been involved in projects in 21 locations all over the world.
In the Channel Islands, the charity has run education programmes such as the ‘Snorkel Trail’ and the expansion of the ‘hand dived’ mark to promote and reward sustainable fishing practices.
A £300,000 HSBC donation will be split over three years and began at the end of 2024.
Blue Marine’s Channel Islands Project Manager, Freddie Watson, is grateful for the support.
“It’s great to have the support of HSBC, which enables us to deliver a wide range of initiatives, such as education and outreach, crucial research and championing sustainable fisheries.
"We hope to see both Bailiwicks paving the way for marine protection, supporting thriving coastal communities and biodiversity."
