Channel Islands Are Top Two In Island Games

The Channel Islands have secured first and second place in the 2023 Island Games, with hosts Guernsey winning the most medals.

Guernsey secured 145 medals with Jersey coming in a second with 126 podium places.

The week saw thousands of islanders coming out to support the athletes, from their channel home or further afield.

From the triathlon on the south coast to mountain biking on the north coast, sports covered the island for 6 days straight.

Jersey's strongest athletes were in the pool with a total of 39 medals coming from Beau Sejor's swimming lanes.

Guernsey performed the best at the shooting range securing 33 podium places.

For the first time in 18 years, Guernsey hosted Indoor Bowls, with Guernsey taking medals from every direction, including husband and wife team Allison and Ian Merrien:

Jersey also won in the team event.

The final day, dubbed 'Fantastic Friday' saw a flurry of medals from both islands, with Guernsey cyclist Sam Culverwell coming first in the cycling road race:

And Jersey's getting gold in the relay triathlon, an island Games first, Guernsey was hot on their heels in second place:

The next Island Games will be held in Orkney, in the Northern Isles of Scotland, in 2025.
