A local forecaster says there is better weather to come after torrential downpours in the Channel Islands.
Jersey Met recorded almost 55 millimetres of rain in the north east of Jersey last night (7 September).
27.8mm of rain fell in St Helier and 18 mm at Jersey Airport.
In Guernsey, around 22 mm of rain was recorded in St Peter Port, and 18mm at the airport.
Senior forecaster Brian De Gruchy says the islands experienced torrential downpours.
"Around half of the rain fell in just one hour, between seven and eight o'clock.
The rainfall amounts are quite large, but not particularly unusual. Perhaps what is a little more unusual is the intensity of that rainfall during thunderstorms."
He says that there is better weather to come.
"Today (8 September) we are expecting about another 10 to 20 millimetres of rain, but I’m not expecting anything quite as intense as we saw last night.
Going into next week, things generally look drier and brighter."
