Driver Jailed For Causing Kade Bougourd's Death

A man's been jailed for five years and banned from driving for 12 after causing the death of Kade Bougourd.

The 19-year-old died when the car he was in overturned on the Vazon Coast Road last April.

Four others were injured in the crash, two of them so seriously that they had to be taken to hospital.

29-year-old Anthony Hamon was sentenced in Guernsey's Royal Court this morning following a 'complex' investigation.

Acting Chief Inspector Tom Marshall extended the Police's 'deepest sympathies to Kade's family and friends, adding his tragic death is a 'sobering reminder' that whenever you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you're taking control of what can potentially be a lethal weapon.

"This was a complex investigation carried out by specialist officers, supported by the Law Officers of the Crown, using specialist equipment to establish the facts.

This tragic incident provides a sobering reminder to everyone that when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you are taking control of what can potentially become a lethal weapon. It really is as simple as this; driving at dangerous speeds can kill someone. Driving when not paying attention can kill someone. Driving under the influence can kill someone.

Not only does someone who kills another while driving have to face the legal consequences, but they also have to live with the guilt for the rest of their lives.

On behalf of Guernsey Police, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Kade Bougourd who lost his life in the most tragic and totally preventable set of circumstances."
