Events to promote and celebrate fostering in the Bailiwick

The vital role of families who foster in the Bailiwick is being celebrated this weekend by the Family Placement Service.

A fostering fun day on Saturday at Saumarez Park aims to encourage more people to consider opening their homes to a child or young person who needs care, stability and support.

There will be face painting, bouncy castles, creative activities and affordable stalls

It's kicking off 'Foster Care Fortnight' - during which the team will be hosting drop-in information sessions at various locations:

• Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, 20 May, 3 pm - 7 pm
• Guernsey Park Run at Pembroke Bay, 23 May.
• Beach House, Pembroke, 23 May 9 am - 11 am

Cath Black, Team Manager at the Family Placement Service, wants to encourage anyone considering fostering to learn more:

“Every foster carer plays a crucial role in helping children feel valued, supported, and safe.

"Whether someone can offer short-term care, long-term stability, or specialised support, their contribution can be life-changing.

"Islanders don’t need special qualifications or a perfect home to foster – just compassion, patience, and the ability to provide a safe and nurturing environment."

The Family Placement Service is holding the next Skills to Foster Course on 29 -31 May, providing the opportunity to learn more about the realities of the role.
