Fundraisers for Guernsey woman's cancer treatment

Guernsey-born Beth Kitson Gouarin will be faced with big bills for private cancer treatment in Germany.

Following the progression of her brain cancer, Guernsey girl Beth Kitson Gouarin urgently needs £120,000 to access further treatment.

Beth was first diagnosed in 2019 and was given just 18 months to live at the age of 27.

Over the past six years, Beth has undergone NHS treatment in the UK as well as private treatment in Germany, including specialist immunotherapy currently unavailable on the NHS, which she credits with exceeding her initial life expectancy.

Her husband, Josh, has started a GoFundMe page to help her access further options:

“Over the last six years, Beth’s been an incredibly strong human being and has manged to find solutions in some of the darkest corners for her cancer.

"Recently, she was diagnosed with a new enhancement of her brain cancer, and we have found ourselves in a position where we have the answers, but don’t have the resources.

"I’m reaching out to try and help my wife; she is an incredibly good, strong person, but even she needs help sometimes.”

“If there is anybody that can help, that can contribute, that can share this message, whatever it is, everything is really, really, really appreciated.”

Her friends and family are calling on islanders to get behind fundraising efforts that will go towards her travel and specialist treatment in Germany.

The advanced treatments include ultrasound, radiotherapy and proton therapy, each estimated at up to £70,000.

Beth’s family and friends are doing everything they can to raise the necessary funds.

Her friends Jessica Huber and Dom Rowe have planned a “Belters for Beth” karaoke night at the Golden Lion on Friday 25 July.

Sam Hampert and Kristina Baker are hosting a “Walk for Beth” on Sunday 24 August.

The six-kilometre Walk for Beth will begin and end at the Peninsula Hotel, following a scenic coastal route towards Portinfer and around Les Vardes Quarry.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s, available on Eventbrite by searching “Walk for Beth”. The walk starts at 10am.
