The Guernseyman best known for bringing coffee to the West has had his gravestone restored.
The grave of William Le Lacheur in London's Highgate Cemetery had fallen into disrepair. The gravestone had collapsed and faded.
In November last year, the Guernsey Society launched a fundraiser to restore the Guernseyman's grave.
Society member Marguerite Talmage says Captain Le Lacheur was an extraordinary man.
"The captain sailed his ships between London and Costa Rica many times to carry coffee crops back from the South American country, raising money for the Costa Rican community.
"Through those endeavours, he managed to turn Costa Rica into a much more prosperous country."
Marguerite says they held a small ceremony to unveil the new gravestone.
"We gathered there with His Excellency the Ambassador to the UK for Costa Rica, Rafael Ortiz Fábrega, Keith Le Page, who is the Chair of the Guernsey Society, relations of William Le Lacheur and a few other people, and it was a very pleasant occasion.
"The grave now looks superb, and it looks like it would have done when it was first set into the cemetery.
"It's in a quiet woodland area.
"It's very gratifying to know that now we can commemorate this great Guernsey forefather of ours in this way."
