A new book on Guernsey's language will be launched today (7 August) at Castle Cornet at the start of Guernsey Language Week.
My First Guernesiais Word is filled with illustrations of everyday objects and it includes a 'how to say it' guide at the back.
Guernsey Museums has worked in partnership with Island Language to produce a learning video to be used alongside the book, which is available on YouTube.
Jo Dowding from the museum service says it's a way to keep the language alive for younger generations.
"At the museum we get asked a great deal about Guernsey's language, people are really interested in it, and this book is very bright, colourful, full of really bold illustrations of everyday objects and I think it will appeal to children and families alike.
It's wonderful to have parents and grandparents coming into the museum, and looking at the book and maybe remembering some words from when they were younger and it keeps it going - those children will grow up with those words as well."
The event will take place 10.00-11.30 with a Guernesiais trail around the castle. Normal admission of £7 is required.
