Guernsey company calls for modern mooring system after overseas success

A Guernsey marine company has installed a floating seaplane dock in Saudi Arabia and wants Guernsey to do the same.

Guernsey firm, Blue Parameters, has completed installing a Seaflex-moored floating pontoon at Shura Island, in the Red Sea.

The company says the technology should be adopted in Guernsey, calling it "fast, affordable, sustainable and easy on the eye."

The Seaflex system sits underwater and does not need heavy chains to keep the pontoon in place, reducing damage to the seabed.

Managing Director Nick Burton says the project shows what could be achieved in Guernsey.

“It’s a proud moment to see a Guernsey company delivering infrastructure of this standard on the world stage.

"The thing we’d want people at home to take from it is a simple one: marine infrastructure doesn’t have to be slow, costly or intrusive.

"The expertise sits right here on the island — and we’d relish the chance to put it to work for Guernsey’s own waterfront and its blue economy.”
