Guernsey gets its 'youth club on wheels'

The Youth Commission has launched 'The Bus Stop' - a fully equipped, solar-powered mobile youth club.

'The Bus Stop' is designed to bring essential youth services directly to communities, offering free entertainment, activities and support on-board from trained Youth Support Workers.

The bus, converted from the local fleet, will drive across the island to provide young people with entertainment, education and social interaction they may have been missing out on.

It will also be present at major community events, offering a fun, inclusive and supportive environment.

The Youth Commission's Project Lead, Michelle Turberville says not every young person can get to The Hub in St Peter Port or La Moye Church Hall in the Vale, so they needed a creative solution.

A jukebox, DJ equipment, free Wifi, and the design of the interior were all elements donated by Guernsey organisations.

The bus got its official launch on Liberation Day (9 May) at Guernsey bus terminus.

The next stop for The Bus Stop will be The Bridge (outside Cycle World) on Wednesday 14 May from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.

When the plans were first announced, the Commission set up an Amazon wish list full of board games and outdoor activities for the Guernsey community to support their initiative.

Local organisations donated to deck out the bus and make it a reality. Donations included covering the insurance, free Wifi, DJ equipment, a VR headset and the fitting of solar panels.
