Five islanders are preparing to climb the highest mountain on the African continent.
In February 2025, Rose Haysom died from a rare form of cancer.
She documented her journey following her diagnosis on Instagram, where her family say she showed an inspirational attitude to life, always encouraging those around her to have fun and not take things too seriously.
Now, in her memory and to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice, which cared for Rose at the end of her life, a group of friends and family are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Steve and Lily Haysom, Christian Povall, Erin Scullion and Helena de Cargeret hope to reach the summit on 20 September, on what would have been Rose's 28th birthday.
They aim to raise £19,341, one pound for every foot they will climb.
They are currently training for the trek using the cliffs around Guernsey to build their stamina and lung capacity.
Rose’s Dad Steve says they want to push themselves to give back.
"Rose was so brave and inspirational in her fight against cancer
"She documented her journey on Instagram and helped to break the stigma and fear around cancer.
"The care she received from the staff at Les Bourgs Hospice was exemplary and allowed family and friends to have peace and tranquillity to support Rose in her final days.
"We are aware of the current running costs of the Hospice and wanted to raise the money to give something back to Les Bourgs and the community."
