Guernsey Post suspends USA shipments

Guernsey Post has stopped its parcels service to the US ahead of a new import duty coming into effect.

In late July the US Government announced changes to customs obligations for goods entering the country.

Previously, a parcel valued under $800 could enter the US duty-free, but this new executive order changes that, beginning this coming Friday (29 August).

All goods shipped to the USA will now require the customs duty to be paid in advance, regardless of value.

Guernsey Post says it is unclear, at this stage, how this duty will be collected by the American authorities.

It says pausing US-bound parcels for now will protect customers from potential delays, unexpected charges, or rejected shipments.

Guernsey Post says it is working with the Royal Mail and other partners to find a solution.

It is approaching Guernsey businesses with information about Fedex, which may be an option for those needing to get parcels to the US

Letters and documents are unaffected.
