Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) has launched a sun safety campaign following concerning results from a Wellbeing Survey.
Sunscreen bottles have been given to schools, and posts have gone up on social media to help islanders prevent and detect skin cancer.
MUG was prompted to take action this summer, after nearly half of survey participants reported being sun burnt at least once last year.
This figure rose to 73% for people aged 16 to 24.
Dr Ed Partridge, from the Healthcare Group, asks islanders to check their skin for changes.
"Severe sunburn is associated with more severe types of skin cancer, such as Melanoma.
"But the majority of skin cancers really arise just simply as a consequence of sun exposure over many years, often from not using sun cream."
The charity's message is:
● Cream up – Use SPF 15 or higher, and reapply regularly
● Cover up – Wear a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing
● Cool off – Avoid overexposure to the sun when it’s strongest, between 11am and 3pm
