Guernsey's oldest pub closes temporarily

The brewery is looking for a new tenant for the Plough Inn in Vauvert.

The Plough Inn, which is thought to be Guernsey's oldest pub, closed a few weeks ago.

It is popular with locals in the Vauvert area and has a small outside seating area.

A spokesperson for the Butcombe Group, which ultimately owns the venue, told us:

“The tenant at The Plough, St Peter Port, has decided to cease trading, hence the temporary closure of the site.

"We are actively looking for a new tenant so we can get The Plough open once again, as soon as possible."

Chris Dean, who ran the pub in the 80s and 90s, says the Plough is unique.

"It goes back to 1810, being a public house. There were obviously lots of pubs back in those days, but they are not still going.

"The Plough is a small pub, serving mainly locals. People used to pass by after they had been to the Victoria Arms or the Brit.

"They were fun days."
