“Hear It from Us” campaign calls for inclusion in Guernsey

A campaign is asking local organisations to listen and learn to make their workplaces and facilities more inclusive.

Inclusivity charity UnLtd, which is based at Beau Sejour, has launched a social media campaign called ‘Hear it from Us.'

The video series features disabled islanders talking about the barriers preventing them from fully engaging with society or the economy.

The charity hopes that giving a platform to "voices that have been historically unheard" will promote positive change in workplaces and public spaces.

UnLtd Managing Director Rob Harnish says more than 13,000 people in Guernsey are living with physical or sensory impairments.

“Too often, conversations about inclusion happen around people with disabilities, not with them, and so true progress isn’t made.

"Hear it from Us passes them the microphone, it gives them the space to explain in their own words what real support looks like to them.

"It gives them a voice and a platform where they’ve previously gone unheard.

"From this opportunity, the featured members have grown exponentially in confidence and empowerment from being able to share their heartfelt experience.”
