The work of Major Bob Place was celebrated at Les Rocquettes Hotel.
Major Bob Place has been a part of the Guernsey branch of the Royal British Legion since the 80s.
He left the British Army in 2002, and a year later, he began taking on more responsibility within the organisation, becoming the President of the Island Branch in 2015.
Bob says the financial and emotional support the group provides ex-military personnel is essential.
"Most of the work that we have done has been on the welfare of ex-servicemen and, more recently, mental health support.
"It’s a real privilege, because you don’t often get the chance to do so much for the veterans.
He says the cheers and thanks last night (21 July) meant a great deal to him.
Bob wishes his successor, Ben Rowe, the best of luck.
"I think 10 years in the role is enough for me.
"I’m 81 now, and you don’t have as many fresh ideas as you did 20 years ago.
"So I think it’s good that someone new comes in, and I’m sure it’s going to go well."
