A humanitarian charity is organising a mass sleepout in the new year, to raise money to build accommodation for the homeless.
Caritas invites islanders to join them on 24 January 2025 to sleep outside the KGV.
The sponsor money will go towards the charity’s modular housing project, which seeks to buy land and build accommodation for Guernsey's homeless.
The project was launched in response to a 2023 States of Guernsey Indicators of Poverty report, that found more than a thousand islanders don't have a permanent address.
That is around 1 in 64 island residents.
In England, 1 in every 182 people are considered homeless.
Charlotte Dunsterville, from event sponsor Skipton, is taking part in the sleepout.
"I feel the cold quite a lot, so it is quite a daunting prospect.
It's not like we've picked an easy date like the middle of summer, but I think it will really show what it is like for people in that situation.
But this is just for one night, whereas people who are homeless face an ongoing problem of not having secure housing.
I think it will be a good atmosphere on the night, with lots of people, and volunteers to help out.
We'll arrive around 7:00 pm, set up and sleep, and then be woken up in the morning with coffee and bacon rolls.
Hopefully, it will raise lots of money and awareness for Caritas and the good work that they are doing."
Islanders can register for the event and download sponsorship forms on the Caritas website.
