Channel Islands Ferry Operators Working Group expands

Guernsey's Economic Development President Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller and Jersey's Minister for Sustainable Economic Development Deputy Kirsten Morel

DFDS and the States of Jersey have confirmed their interest in joining the Ferry Operators Working Group to improve sea travel between Guernsey and Jersey.

Yesterday (22 December), Guernsey's Economic Development Committee revealed the establishment of a 'Ferry Operators Working Group' to improve sea travel between Guernsey and Jersey.

Brittany Ferries, Manche-Îles Express and Islands Unlimited all agreed to coordinate services to benefit travellers, particularly when large sporting or cultural events are taking place.

One name that was missing from the line-up was Jersey's operator, DFDS.

The company quickly responded, saying it would like to be involved in discussions and had previously expressed a desire to collaborate.

Today (23 December), Guernsey's Economic Development President Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller has confirmed that this has been resolved.

“I am very pleased to say that following a call with Deputy Morel yesterday, the States of Jersey have confirmed their interest in joining the working party with Brittany Ferries, Islands Unlimited, and Manche-Iles Express to develop better inter-island sea connectivity in 2026.

"They will be joining the newly established working group from its first meeting in 2026, and we will be pleased to include DFDS as well.

“As announced last week, the group will be working on ensuring there are suitable timetables in place to cover inter-island events for sporting clubs and associations, and will also be looking to improve timings and availability of general inter-island sailings.

"It's very positive to see the strong political will in Jersey to improve inter-island travel, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Government of Jersey and DFDS on this and securing a reciprocal rotation.”

This comes while DFDS and Brittany Ferries are both looking to secure prime time slots for St Malo in 2026.

Guernsey's States say Brittany Ferries’ Guernsey Service will have the 8:15am slot, enabling it to grow its passenger and freight service.

Meanwhile, DFDS is seeking urgent clarification from the Port of St Malo after previously saying it had secured a 7:45am slot but later being told it may be 7:15.
