King Charles III and Queen Camilla to visit Guernsey next month

Buckingham Palace has announced Their Majesties will visit the Bailiwick on Tuesday 16 July.

This will be His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla's first visit to Guernsey since their Accession to the throne, and the first visit to the Channel Islands of a reigning monarch in almost 20 years.

Their itinerary will showcase the Bailiwick's culture, heritage, produce and environment.

The programme includes a special sitting of the States of Deliberation and a centuries-old ceremony of homage to His Majesty held on the St Peter Port seafront so that islanders can watch.

Their Majesties will go to Crown Pier to see examples of Guernsey's heritage, including the native patois, locally produced food, and environmental initiatives.

Time constraints will mean Charles and Camilla will not able to go to Alderney and Sark, but representatives of those islands will be in Guernsey to represent their communities.

The Bailiff of Guernsey, Sir Richard McMahon, says the island should feel honoured to host the monarchs.

“It will be a great privilege to welcome Their Majesties to the Bailiwick for the first time as King and Queen; the year after their Coronation.

Their visit this summer shows just how special the relationship between the Crown and the Islands is.”

Guernsey's Chief Minister Deputy Lyndon Trott hopes the island's green objectives will interest the royals.

“As is well known, His Majesty also has a special interest in global efforts to combat climate change.

We are looking forward to showcasing our initiatives to support those efforts and promote sustainability across a range of sectors.

That includes the pioneering green finance initiatives of our main economic sector, which have a global impact.”

Charles and Camilla were last in the Channel Islands in 2012, and the last visit of a reigning monarch was when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was here for Liberation Day 2005.

More details about the royal visit will be released closer to the time.
