Guernsey's Bob Beebe - an amateur radio enthusiast of 50 years - has been elected President of the Radio Society of Great Britain.
Bob Beebe is the first person from the Channel Islands to hold the position and will lead the national society for the next two years.
The RSGB represents tens of thousands of radio amateurs in the UK - representing their interests to Ofcom, which regulates the radio spectrum across the British Isles, and to international organisations that govern the hobby.
It also conducts the exams that enthusiasts must pass to get a license to transmit.
Mr Beebe has been a member of the RSGB for more than 50 years and has been a volunteer for more than three decades.
In one of his first duties as President, he went to the centenary celebrations of the International Amateur Radio Union in Paris.
He says in the last 100 years, the progress of wireless communication has been extraordinary. "We need to safeguard the radio spectrum and ensure the next generation of innovators has every opportunity to flourish and shape the future of communication technology.
"Radio has been a foundation throughout my life.
"It’s incredibly rewarding now to help others in a new way, especially young people who wish to discover the excitement of becoming a licensed radio amateur and unlocking the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics."
