Pubs can apply to stay open later to show World Cup games

Pubs in Guernsey can apply to stay open later to show World Cup games.

The Committee for Home Affairs says it has received queries about extending licensing hours.

Applications can be made here and any made will be submitted - licensees won't be allowed to stay open later than 2am.

Deputy Marc Leadbeater, President of the Committee for Home Affairs, said:

"While it is ultimately a decision for the Liquor Licensing Court, we have had discussions with some key stakeholders, including Guernsey Police, and from a Home Affairs perspective we would be supportive of applications, as long as appropriate conditions were applied to support public order.

"That last point is really important, and I would urge everyone to enjoy any extension to licensing hours responsibly so that we can remember the World Cup for all the right reasons and not do anything that would prevent extensions being applied in the future."

The Liquor Licensing Court sits on a Tuesday morning, so applications have to be made ahead of the previous Thursday to be heard.

Pubs in Jersey will be allowed to stay open until 2am to show some World Cup games.
