It's time to say 'baa'-bye to Belle, Gypsy, Lily and Elvis as they leave Jersey Zoo to join a UK breeding programme.
The herd of Golden Guernsey Goats are packing their baa-gs and moving to Suffolk where they will join a zoo looking to protect rare breeds.
They are heading to Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park next month after it made an appeal for more of the animals.
There were no plans to breed the animals locally, so relocation was deemed to be in the best interests of the breed.
Durrell says it has been a while since the herd's genetic line has left the Channel Islands.
The breed is a medium-sized goat, identified by its unique golden coat.
Golden Guernseys are known for being calm and produces good-quality, rich milk.
Ben Matthews, Curator of Mammals at Jersey Zoo answered the other zoo's call for Golden Guernsey Goats.
"We know our visitors will miss Belle, Gypsy, Lily and Elvis but saying goodbye to our herd is in the best interest of the goats, and we are grateful."
The four goats joined Durrell in 2022 and were allowed into the Zoo in July following a quarantine period.
Jersey Zoo announced it is sad to see them go.
"We are happy that they will be joining such a successful existing breeding group."
The goats will be leaving the Channel Islands in March 2025.
