Reliability of Alderney airlinks to be reviewed

"Recent disruption" has prompted a review of air travel reliability to and from Alderney.

Alderney's Policy and Finance Committee recently established the Air Connectivity Oversight Working Group to oversee an independent review of air services between Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey and the UK.

The Committee says reliable air travel plays an important role in everyday life in Alderney, supporting access to employment, education, healthcare, tourism and family connections.

The Working Group was formed following a proposal from States Member Steve Roberts.

He chairs the group and is joined by States Members Veronica Taylor and Kevin Gentle.

They will consider data from local pilots, passenger surveys and records dating back to February.

Mr Roberts says they want to hear from the whole community.

"This review seeks to build a detailed evidence base to better understand the challenges facing Alderney's air connectivity and the impact these have on our community and economy.

"I believe an independent review is the best way to establish a clear, evidence-based understanding of the issues and to identify what improvements may be needed to ensure Alderney's air services meet the needs of the island.

"I would encourage businesses, organisations and members of the community to share their experiences and contribute to this important piece of work.

"Recent disruption has reinforced the importance of understanding the challenges facing Alderney's air connectivity.

"Gathering evidence from those affected will help ensure the review is informed by the experiences of the community."

"Most recently, we delivered a much-improved performance during Alderney Week with added schedules delivered as promised.

"We recognise that there remains work to be done to further strengthen our performance on the Alderney routes and will continue to co-operate with key established stakeholders as we move forward."
