Kevin Adams has been presented with a national award by Guernsey's Lieutenant Governor.
Mr Adams holds a number of roles. He's a senior member of Sark's Court, the Seneschal, the island's Chief Fire Officer, Church Organist, Choirmaster, and Island Games athlete - competing in archery.
His name appeared on the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours List.
On Saturday (28 October), he was presented with the medal for 'Services to Sark' by Guernsey's lieutenant governor, General Richard Cripwell.
He says receiving the honour in Sark's Island Hall was special:
"The beauty of being able to have the ceremony in Sark was that I was able to have my friends, family and the people of Sark there with me to celebrate.
It's absolutely wonderful to be honoured with the medal after a number of years of doing all the jobs I do."
He added that his family had inspired him to pursue a number of roles. His grandfather was Greffier and Treasurer of the Seneschal, his father was Prévôt and his uncles were part of the fire service.
"I've done a lot for myself, and a lot for my island.
I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon now that I've got the medal because there is still plenty I can do."
Lieutenant-Governor Richard Cripwell praised Mr Adams:
"I really am delighted to present this award here in Sark, on behalf of His Majesty.
It’s fair to say that in an island that relies so much on the volunteer spirit, Mr Adams stands out as an exemplar.
His contribution to Sark over many decades has been truly remarkable and this award is richly deserved."
Anyone can be considered for awards of the Order of the British Empire. Sark nominations should be submitted to the Speaker of Chief Pleas.
