Rotary Guernsey delivers its Christmas hampers

Volunteers get the Rotary food parcels and hampers ready to distribute.

The charity is thanking islanders for giving £7,600 towards its Christmas Food Parcels appeal.

Rotary Guernsey president Carla Bauer says the money was collected at annual fund raising events last month:

"We held our Rotary Flag Days on 28 and 29 November and I'm delighted islanders were able to put their hands in their pockets and donate an impressive £7,600."

136 volunteers collected donations from passers by outside 17 Guernsey shops and supermarkets.

Carla says the money has bought 154 winter food parcels:

"They're full of Christmas goodies and staples as well.

"We have smaller ones for individuals, and we have family hampers."

Those are now ready to be distributed this week:

"They've all gone to a grotto and myself and my fellow Rotarians will be collecting them this week and taking them to our allocated individuals at addresses across the island."

"These Rotary Christmas food parcels bring real relief and comfort to individuals and families who may otherwise struggle during the winter months.

"None of this would be possible without our volunteers, participating shops, and the remarkable generosity of the public. We are extremely grateful."
