Public Health has released the results of the eleventh round of child measurements in Guernsey and Alderney schools.
The heights and weights of Guernsey pupils in school Years 1 and 5 have been recorded during the spring term since 2013.
The latest report, from 2024, found the majority were a healthy weight, but obesity levels had increased slightly in both year groups compared to the year before.
20.7% of children aged 5 to 6 (Year 1) were overweight, a 4.4% increase.
While Year 5 saw a 2.3% increase in overweight children to 28.2%.
This means more than one in four 9 to 10 years old were overweight.
267 children were estimated to be overweight or obese across the two year groups.
Public Health says although proportionately, this is 'consistently and notably' below child obesiety levels in Jersey and England, the local percentage is still 'pronounced'.
