Eight people in Guernsey arrested for drink driving

Guernsey Police have arrested eight motorists so far in a spring anti-drink drive operation, including two who were three times over the limit.

The latest arrests were made over the weekend, with two 44-year-old men charged with the offence. Police say one of them gave a reading of three times the legal limit.

The third person arrested has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Since the start of April, 80 cars have been pulled over and eight people arrested.  The highest reading was three and half times the legal limit of 35mcg.

Bailiwick Law Enforcement is warning islanders who drink and drive that there are consequences:

"Everyone in the community knows that drink driving is totally unacceptable. We know this because some of the arrests were made following reports we'd received directly from members of the public.

"That said, people are still getting behind the wheel drunk, and between the start of 2023 and April 2024, 91 people have been arrested for drink driving.

"Our message to the people who think they can get away with this reckless act is our officers will stop you, you will face court, and you could face prison."
