The new president and vice president of P&R will share the role of Treasury lead.
The first meeting of the new Policy and Resources Committee has decided that the role of Treasury lead should be shared between its president and vice president. It was held solely by deputy Mark Helyar until that committee was removed by the States at the December meeting.
Deputy Lyndon Trott has a background in Guernsey's finance industry and holds directorships in ten financial services companies.
Deputy Heidi Soulsby is a chartered accountant and holds directorships in three financial services companies.
Both are politically experienced, with deputy Trott having served as chief minister when that was a specifically titled role - now it only applies when the president of P&R is representing Guernsey overseas. He has also been Treasury lead.
Deputy Soulsby was vice president of P&R until she resigned from that role in October 2022 and before that headed up Health and Social Care and the Public Accounts Committee.
P&R president Lyndon Trott will lead on finance and Moneyval matters ahead of next year's inspection, seen as vital to the continuation of the financial services industry and the island's reputation.
Deputy Soullsby will head up the savings sub committee set up in the wake of the failed GST bid by the previous committee.
Deputy Trott says their first meeting was positive and collaborative and more roles will be decided tomorrow:
"There is a lot to get done in the remainder of this political term, and the briefings we have had today have helped to bring us up to speed quickly so we can hit the ground running. There’s much more to discuss as the Committee has a broad mandate."
