Two Islanders On The King's First Honours List

Lucy Beere and Roy Bission have been recognised in the New Year Honours List.

Two 'remarkable individuals' from Guernsey have been recognised for their work in the New Year Honours List.

At the end of every year, a list is published by Buckingham Palace, recognising the achievements and service of people across the country.

With titles awarded by the reigning monarch, this year's will be the first to be presented by King Charles III.

Islander Lucy Beere has becomes an MBE for services to sport in Guernsey.

The talented bowler has won 16 Channel Island titles, including the Women’s singles five times, and 18 international medals.

Miss Beere also won the island's fourth-ever silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in August 2022.

The second islander to make the King's New Year Honours List is Roy Bisson, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community in Guernsey.

As a charity/society member, advisor and founder, Mr Bisson has been involved in a range of aspects of island-life - from computerising Swimarathon systems in the 1980s, to serving as a non-States Member on the Environment Board, and - most recently - being elected the President of La Société Guernesiaise.

The Lieutenant-Governor Richard Cripwell says these are worthy recipients:

"I’m delighted that these two remarkable individuals have been recognised in His Majesty The King’s first New Year’s Honours list.

On the face of it, their achievements may appear quite different, but what Miss Beere and Mr Bisson have in common is a powerful sense of pride in Guernsey and its people that shines through in all that they do.

I’m sure that islanders will join me in sending them both our heartful congratulations."
