Bus Transfer Ticket To Cost The Same As Single Fare

Bus passengers will be able to buy a transfer ticket at the same price as a single ticket from 1 January 2021.

It was proposed by Deputy Montfort Tadier, who argued that people should be able to from point A to B for a single fare, irrespective of whether they need to get more than one bus.

"It's going to benefit people who are making those short journeys, but which necessitate a change.

"The people who are travelling from West Park for example to St Saviour's Church. People might be travelling from West Park to Le Squez or wherever. They're not necessarily long journeys and they're certainly journeys where people shouldn't be charged effectively twice."

The Reform politician also wanted all fares to be the same, whether they're paid by cash, debit card of Avanchi Card. However, that was rejected.

A single adult fare costs £2.40, which goes down to £2 for contactless and £1.75 for Avanchi.

A transfer ticket currently costs £4, which goes down to £3.50 for contactless and £3 for Avanchi.

The final part of his proposition, which asked for an investigation into the possibility of topping up Avanchi Cards on buses was also refused. They can only be done at the bus station in person or online.
